What website maintenance services actually mean

A lot of people search for website maintenance services and get a vague pitch about “care plans” with a long list of line items and hourly overages. That is not how I work. When I say maintenance, I mean I am the person who keeps your site online, current, and useful so you do not have to think about it.

You run the business. I handle the website layer: hosting, domain, SSL, security, backups, content changes, speed checks, and the SEO basics that keep you from quietly falling off Google. You text or email me when something needs to change. I do the work. That is the whole relationship.

This is the ongoing side of my Pro website package. If you are starting from scratch, we build first, then you land on the monthly plan. If you already have a site I built, maintenance is simply how we keep it earning its keep. Full package details live on the website packages page.

What’s included every month

Everything your website needs to stay online, secure, and working properly. No menu of add-ons for the basics. If it is part of keeping the site healthy, it is in the monthly plan.

  • Hosting and domain Modern, fast hosting. Your domain stays registered and pointing to the right place. No cheap shared servers fighting for resources with a hundred other sites.
  • SSL and security Active SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser), security monitoring, and protection so visitors are not hitting scary warning screens.
  • Backups Regular backups of your entire site stored separately from your hosting. If something breaks, I restore it fast instead of rebuilding from memory.
  • Content updates Hours change, prices change, a new service launches, photos need swapping. Text or email me and it gets done same-day or next business day.
  • Performance monitoring Monthly speed tests and optimization. I catch slow-downs before they cost you visitors or quietly hurt your Google rankings.
  • SEO monitoring I watch Google Search Console, keyword positions, and indexing issues so you stay visible for the searches that matter.

That mix is what most Louisville owners actually need from website maintenance services. Not a bloated WordPress plugin stack. Not a ticket portal. A real person who already knows your site and can make the change without a three-email thread.

How the pricing works

Maintenance is framed as the Pro monthly relationship. One clear number for ongoing care. If you need a new site built first, setup is separate and one-time.

$399/month
Pro monthly relationship

Hosting, domain, SSL, security, backups, content updates, performance checks, SEO monitoring, and priority support. You talk to me. Month to month after you are in, with 30 days notice if you ever want to stop.

$2,500
One-time setup for new sites

If you do not have a site with me yet, setup covers the custom build and getting you onto the Pro plan. That is the path for most new clients: build once, then keep it maintained every month.

What happens without maintenance?

Building a website and forgetting about it is like buying a truck and never changing the oil. It works for a while, then it does not. Here is what is actually at stake when nobody is watching the site.

What You Get With Maintenance Without
SSL certificate active ✗ Expires, Google flags site
Site loads fast ✗ Slows down over time
Content stays current ✗ Wrong hours, old prices
Google rankings hold ✗ Competitors pass you
Someone to call when it breaks ✗ You’re on your own
Domain stays registered ✗ Risk losing your URL

A neglected website is often worse than no website. It tells potential customers you do not care about the details. A customer who calls a disconnected number or shows up during hours you already changed is not coming back. Website maintenance services exist so that does not happen on your watch.

Who this is for

I built this for Louisville-area small businesses that need a reliable website without hiring an in-house web person. If any of these sound like you, we are probably a fit.

You already have a site with me

You are on Pro, or you just finished a build, and you want one person handling updates, hosting, and SEO checks every month without shopping around for a separate “care plan.”

You need a new site plus ongoing care

Setup gets the custom site built. The monthly plan keeps it maintained. That is the clean path for most new clients who want website maintenance services bundled with the build.

Restaurants with menus that change

Restaurants need hours, specials, and menu updates without waiting on a distant agency. Same-day or next-day changes keep the site matching what you are actually serving.

Contractors who cannot babysit a CMS

Contractors should be on job sites, not fighting WordPress. You send me the new service area, photo, or phone number. I update the site while you finish the day’s work.

Healthcare practices that need trust signals

Healthcare sites need accurate bios, services, and intake details. Ongoing maintenance keeps the practice site current so patients are not acting on stale information.

You want one local guy, not a ticket queue

You call or text Hunter. The person who answers is the person who built the site and will make the change. No account managers, no “we’ll escalate that.”

Who this is not for

I would rather point you somewhere useful than sell you a monthly plan that does not fit. Skip this if any of these are true.

The site itself is a mess

If the site is broken, hacked, or abandoned by the last designer, start with a diagnostic, not a maintenance retainer. My Website Rescue path is built for that.

You need a full ops team

If you need product listings, ads hygiene, review replies, and weekly ops check-ins on top of the site, that is a different tier. Look at online operations support.

You want to DIY forever

Some owners love editing their own site. That is fine. If you want full control and no monthly relationship, we may not be the right fit for ongoing maintenance.

Real example: Smither Psychiatry

Ongoing updates for a Louisville practice

A practice site that stays current after launch

Smither Psychiatry is a clear example of what website maintenance looks like in the real world. I built the practice site with trust-focused pages and local SEO, then stayed on for ongoing updates so bios, services, and site details do not go stale after launch day.

That is the point of website maintenance services: the build gets you online, and the monthly relationship keeps the site accurate while the practice focuses on patients. If you want to see the before-and-after of a redesign path, the before and after gallery shows how much a neglected site can change once someone owns the work.

How the monthly relationship works

No mystery process. You stay in contact the same way you already run your business: phone, text, or email.

1. You send the change

New hours, a photo, a service description, a phone number swap. Send it however is easiest. I do not need a ticket form.

2. I make the update

Most content updates land same-day or next business day. Bigger changes get a quick scope check so you know what is included versus a larger project.

3. I keep watching the site

Between your requests, I am still monitoring uptime, SSL, speed, and Search Console. Maintenance is not only reactive. It is also the quiet work that prevents emergencies.

4. You get straight answers

If something is wrong, I tell you in plain English. If a request is bigger than normal maintenance, I say so before I start. No surprise invoices.

Common questions

What is included in the $399/month?

Hosting, domain management, SSL certificate, security monitoring, backups, content updates, performance monitoring, and SEO tracking. You text or email me changes and I handle everything. No hourly billing, no surprise charges.

How much do website maintenance services cost?

Website maintenance is the Pro monthly relationship at $399/month. If you need a new site built first, setup is $2,500 one-time. That covers the custom build plus getting you onto the monthly care plan.

How often do you update the website?

Content updates happen same-day or next business day when you request them. Security and performance checks happen monthly. I monitor uptime continuously so if your site goes down, I know before you do.

Can I cancel?

Yes — month to month on a simple service agreement, no long-term lock-in. After 12 months, ownership options become available. You can cancel anytime with 30 days notice.

Do I need maintenance if my site is simple?

Yes. Even a simple site needs hosting, SSL, domain renewals, and someone to call when you need a change. The good news is that simpler sites (like what I build) need less active firefighting than complex WordPress sites, which means more of your monthly budget goes toward keeping things running smoothly instead of putting out fires.

What if I already have a website somewhere else?

If you have a site that just needs someone to maintain it, we can talk. My maintenance plans are designed for the sites I build, but I can often take over management of existing sites too. Call me and we will figure out what makes sense.
