Started With One Table and a Pot of Soup

In 2008, our founder set up a folding table in her church basement and started feeding her Portland neighbors. That single table has grown into a 5,000 square foot facility serving hot meals six days a week.

We think everyone deserves a good meal and a warm place to eat it. That's pretty much the whole philosophy.

Volunteer Voices

The people we serve and the volunteers who make it happen, in their own words.

I lost my job last year and honestly didn't know what I was going to do. River City fed me when I couldn't feed myself. But it wasn't just the food. The people there treated me like a person, not a number.

I bring my kids every Saturday to volunteer. They need to see that helping your neighbor is not optional, it is just what you do. This place teaches that.

Before the cooking classes I honestly could barely make eggs without burning them. Eight weeks later I'm doing meal prep on Sundays and my grandkids want me to teach them.
